"Scripting Me 24", integrates traditional Chinese almanac wisdom with modern AI, explicitly using the QWEN 1.5 32B LLM to script and analyze every moment of artist Lazarus Chan's day. This digital reimagination of Tung Shing offers predictive insights through 86,400 messages, reflecting the evolving intersection of culture, technology, and language.

(project details)

Historically, the Tung Shing served as a Chinese almanac that advised on auspicious dates and activities, using lunar cycles and astrology to guide decision-making for events such as weddings and funerals. Similarly, today's Large Language Models (LLMs) harness vast amounts of data to provide guidance and assistance in a variety of domains. They are used to generate text, answer questions, translate languages, assist with writing, and provide insights based on patterns in the data. In the future, we could see LLMs helping people like Tung Shing analyse their life events.

"Scripting Me 24" is a digital reimagining of the traditional Tung Shing, created with the China Large Language Model (QWEN 1.5 32B). It combines the cultural object with the technological, reflecting on how LLM and AI are becoming the new Tung Shing. By sending questions and basic information about the artist to the model, every second of artist Lazarus Chan's 24-hour day is scripted and analysed, culminating in 86,400 messages that delve into scheduled activities and his concurrent thoughts. This project explore how language and technology continue to evolve and interact with our culture.

BACKGROUND

"Scripting Me 24" draws inspiration from how people use LLMs to schedule their daily routines, reflecting on how humans increasingly resemble mechanical components influenced by AI. Through a cultural lens, it parallels the historical use of the Tung Shing, where farmers sought guidance on daily tasks, highlighting the evolving interplay between tradition and technology.

1. Word Embeddings

Word embeddings map words onto vector spaces, mathematically encoding meaning and decision making. By asking LLMs questions, we can decode the cultural perspectives embedded in them, reflecting how AI models such as QWEN 1.5 32B compress and interpret human knowledge, advancing our understanding of language, culture and decision-making in modern contexts.

2. Tung Shing

The Tung Shing is a traditional Chinese almanac used for divination, scheduling, and decision-making. Rooted in ancient astronomy and astrology, it provides guidance on auspicious days and actions, combining cultural beliefs with practical advice. Often referred to as the "Farmer's Almanac," it reflects the interplay of time, nature, and meaning.
